Welcome to Red Arrows class!
This year our class is named 'Red Arrows' class.
-----------------
Term 4 - Misty Mountain, Winding River
We hope you have all enjoyed you half term break.
This term, we are continuing our topic and we look forward to exploring mountains and rivers further.
During this term, we will continue to learn about the characteristics and features of rivers and mountain ranges around the world, including a detailed exploration of the ecosystems and processes that shape them and the land around them.
We have already learnt so much! What is a river? How many types of mountains are there? Which rivers and mountains can you name?
English
During our topic we will explore a range of texts including explanations and narrative poems. In writing explanations, we will be focusing on using fronted adverbials and conjunctions to vary sentence structure and show cause and effect. Also, children will be using their knowledge of technical vocabulary of our topic. Narrative poems will enable the children to use a range of topic-specific and descriptive vocabulary. With both genres we will identify its features, use of language and vocabulary and learn to use these effectively to create our own texts.
We will continue to use Sir Linkalot spelling strategies every day - remember your child can practise at home.
This term we will be enjoying a range of texts about mountains and rivers, including the brilliant book, 'King of the Cloud Forests' by Michael Morpurgo. Through reading we will develop our VIPERS skills. We will continue to read a range of our own books both at home and at school, completing a quiz on Accelerated Reader after each book.

Maths
In Term 4 we will learn about multiplication and division and fractions.
Multiplication and division: (Y3) Multiply 2-digits by 1-digit and divide 2-digits by 1-digit. (Y4) Written methods of multiplication, multiply 2-digits by 1-digit, multiply 3-digits by 1-digit, divide 2-digits by 1-digit and divide 3-digits by 1-digit.
Fractions: (Y3) Count up and down in tenths; recognise that tenths arise from dividing an object into 10 equal parts and in dividing one-digit numbers or quantities by 10, Recognise, find and write fractions of a discrete set of objects: unit fractions and non-unit fractions with small denominators. Recognise and use fractions as numbers: unit fractions and non-unit fractions with small denominators. Recognise and show, using diagrams, equivalent fractions with small denominators. (Y4) Recognise and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions. Count up and down in hundredths; recognise that hundredths arise when dividing an object by 100 and dividing tenths by 10. Solve problems involving increasingly harder fractions to calculate quantities, and fractions to divide quantities, including non-unit fractions where the answer is a whole number. (Y3/4) Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator within one whole. Compare and order unit fractions, and fractions with the same denominators.
PE
Our PE days are on Monday (with Mrs Salisbury) and Thursday (with Mrs Annakie). Please ensure your kit is in school ready for your lessons.
If you have any questions or queries at any point during this term, please do not hesitate to contact us via the office and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
