Edward Kennedy Ellington was born April 29, 1899 and died May 24, 1974. He was better known by this name Duke. He was an American composer, pianist, and leader of a jazz orchestra, which he led from 1923 until he died.

Rossini composed an opera called William Tell. It was first performed in 1829 and was the last opera that he composed. This is the overture - the first part of the music.
Rossini was born in February 1792 in Pesaro, a town on the Adriatic coast of Italy.

On the 16th of December it would have been Ludvig Van Beethoven's 250th Birthday!
You could design him a birthday card - we will display them in the Music Room.
Beethoven is most famous for 4 notes that he wrote for his 5th symphony. He had difficulty with reading and maths and once said 'music comes to me more readily than words'.
Some of his most important music was composed during the last 10 years of his life when he was very deaf.

A 2010 study led by sport psychologist C.I. Karageorghis says that music can improve athletic performance in two ways: it can either delay feeling tired or increase work capacity.
The effects of music lead to “higher-than-expected levels of endurance, power, productivity, or strength.”
